Skills are one-click procedures your workspace has set up for common tasks, like writing a progress note, preparing a handover, or drafting a particular report. Instead of typing out a detailed request, you pick a skill and the Mini follows the steps your team has already defined, using that person's records.

Because the steps are set once and shared, everyone produces the same task the same way, which keeps your documentation consistent. If you're an Admin and want to set skills up, see How to create a skill.

When to use this

  • You have a routine task to get through like a shift handover or a progress note, and you want a consistent result without composing a long prompt.

  • Your team has a set way of writing something such as an incident report, and you want to follow it.

  • You're not sure how to word a request for a common task, and would rather start from one your team has already built.

How it works

There are two ways to run a skill. You can pick one from the Skills menu, the lightning-bolt button in the message area, or you can simply describe what you need in the chat box and the Mini will use a matching skill on its own. Either way, the Mini follows the steps your team set out and shows you which skill it's using as it works. Skills made for Minis appear inside a person's Mini, and skills made for the workspace agent appear in the workspace agent.

Step 1: Open a chat and find the Skills button

Open a Mini, or the workspace agent. In the message area, look for the lightning-bolt Skills button.

Step 2: Choose a skill

Select the Skills button to see the skills available in that chat.

  • To check what a skill does before running it, hover over it, or press the right arrow, to see its description.

  • If there's a long list, use the search box at the top to find one by name.

Step 3: Run it and see what the Mini does

Select a skill and the Mini gets to work, drawing on that person's records. As it works, it shows the skill it's using, so you can tell a skill has been applied. If the skill has a template or reference file attached, it uses that too. When it's done, you get the drafted result in the chat, and you can keep the conversation going to adjust it, the same as any other message.

You don't have to use the menu

The Skills menu is one way in, but you can also just tell the Mini what you need. If you describe the task in the chat box, the Mini will use a matching skill on its own when your workspace has one that fits, and you'll get the same structured result as picking it from the menu.

This works whether you type or dictate. For example, dictating "Turn this into a shift note:" followed by what happened during your shift will use your workspace's shift note skill if there is one. For more on talking to a Mini instead of typing, see Using dictation.

⚠️ Always review before sharing: A skill gives you a well-structured draft, but it's still a draft. Check that names, dates, and details are right before you save it to a record or share it with a family.

Tips for using skills

  • Read before you run. Hover over a skill to see what it does, so you pick the right one for the task in front of you.

  • Or just ask. If you're not sure which skill to pick, describe what you need in your own words and let the Mini choose a matching one.

  • Add detail afterwards. Once a skill has run, you can ask the Mini to adjust the result, for example focusing on one goal or making it shorter.

  • No lightning-bolt button? Your workspace may not have skills set up for that chat yet, and you'll see prompt recommendations instead.

ℹ️ Good to know: Skills are set up and maintained by your Admin. If there's a task your team does often that would make a good skill, let your admin know, as they can add it in Settings.
