Using dictation

Dictation lets you talk directly to a Mini instead of typing. It's for short, in-the-moment messages rather than long recordings, handy when you're on the move or juggling tasks.

Dictation turns your spoken words into typed text, one message at a time. It's built for short, in-the-moment messages rather than long recordings. If you want to capture a longer conversation, like a home visit, family meeting or assessment, and get a full transcript, use Recording a session instead.

When to use dictation

Dictation is helpful when:

  • Your hands are busy, for example during or right after a care interaction

  • You want to capture a quick thought while it's fresh, before the details fade

  • You're describing something as it happens

  • Typing is difficult or slow

You can always edit or add detail after the Mini writes out your words.

How to use dictation

  1. Open the Mini you want to chat with.

  2. Tap the microphone icon in the Mini toolbox, labelled "Start dictation".

3. You will be able to see the words streaming as you speak

4. Hit "Stop dictation"

5. If you're happy with the resulting copy, hit send message, or adjust as needed.

Privacy and safety

Your spoken words are converted to text, then processed just like a typed message. No background audio or other sounds are captured.
