Does Minikai email my team when I turn on SSO or Directory Sync?

Neither SSO nor Directory Sync sends an email when someone gets access. Here's exactly what happens under each setup, and what's on you to communicate.

Short answer: no. Minikai doesn't send an email on its own, either when you first connect, or as people are added afterwards. Here's exactly what happens under each setup, and what you'll need to do yourself.

When to use this

  • You're about to switch on Directory Sync or SSO and want to know if Minikai tells people for you.

  • You've just connected your directory and are wondering why nobody's mentioned getting access.

  • Your IT team is asking what happens automatically before they roll it out to a group.

Directory Sync (SCIM)

When someone is added to a mapped group in your directory, their Minikai account is provisioned quietly in the background, typically within a few minutes, with nothing sent to them or to you.

Single Sign-On

SSO works alongside Directory Sync: SSO handles how people sign in, and Directory Sync creates their Minikai account when they're added to the mapped group in your identity provider. Signing in through SSO alone doesn't create an account, first-time sign-in provisioning is switched off by default. Someone without an existing account is simply turned away at sign-in until Directory Sync has provisioned them. See How Single Sign-On decides who can sign in for the full mechanics.

Manual invite

The one exception: inviting someone by hand, from Workspace Admin → Users → Invite user, does send an email with a link to set up their account. This option only appears if your organisation doesn't have SSO or Directory Sync connected. See How to invite new users and manage existing users.

⚠️ Plan your own message first: Because nothing here is automatic, decide how you'll tell your team before you switch Directory Sync or SSO on. Otherwise nobody will know access exists until someone stumbles onto it. See Rolling out Minikai to your team for a message you can adapt.

Tips

  • Add, then wait, then tell. Put someone in the directory group first, allow a few minutes for provisioning, then let them know. Signing in before they're provisioned just gets them turned away.
