July 2025: Speech-to-Text & SCIM Support

Dictate your queries to a Mini to easily take notes or submit incidents. Easily provision user access using SCIM.

This update adds voice interaction and SCIM user provisioning to Minikai. You can now talk to your Minis – literally – using new speech-to-text functionality that transcribes your voice into the chat. On the admin side, we’ve introduced SCIM support, which automates the process of creating, updating, or removing user accounts in Minikai based on your company directory. Both features are aimed at

making Minikai more convenient and enterprise-friendly.

Feature Highlights:

  • Voice Input (Speech-to-Text)
    What it is: You can now interact with Minis using your voice. We’ve added a microphone button in the chat interface – click it (or tap it on mobile) and start speaking, and your speech will be transcribed in real time as a query or note to the Mini. Minis can understand spoken questions and will respond just as if you typed them. You can also have the Mini transcribe longer dictations (for example, you can dictate a case note or an incident description, and the Mini will turn it into text within the chat, which you can then confirm to save). The speech-to-text engine supports multiple languages and accents, and it uses contextual AI to increase accuracy for medical/care terminology.

    Why it matters: This makes Minikai faster and easier to use, especially when you’re on the go or multitasking. Care staff can dictate a note right after a client interaction, or ask the Mini a question while walking between visits, without needing to stop and type. It’s not only a time- saver but also improves completeness of documentation – by making it as easy as talking, we hope to capture details that might be skipped if someone is in a rush. This feature also improves accessibility for users who have difficulty typing. Overall, voice interaction brings a more human, conversational feel to working with Minis, which fits our mission of technology that augments (not complicates) caregiving.

  • SCIM User Provisioning
    What it is: Minikai now supports SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management), an industry standard for automating user account management. In practical terms, this means if your IT department uses a central directory (like Azure AD, Okta, OneLogin, etc.), they can set up a SCIM integration so that whenever a user is created, updated, or removed in your directory, the change is reflected in Minikai automatically. For example, adding a new staff member in

    your HR system could trigger creating a Minikai user account for them with the right role; disabling a user in your directory (when someone leaves) would automatically deactivate their Minikai access. This works in conjunction with SSO to provide a full lifecycle management of accounts.

    Why it matters: For larger organisations, this is a big convenience and security improvement. It ensures your user list in Minikai is always up-to-date without manual intervention – new hires get access promptly and leavers don’t retain access they shouldn’t. It also reduces the workload on administrators who no longer have to create or delete users by hand one-by-one. SCIM is part of our commitment to enterprise-grade features: along with SSO, it checks the boxes for integrating into your corporate IT governance with minimal fuss. The outcome is smoother onboarding (people can use Minikai as soon as they’ve joined and been added to your system) and peace of mind that user permissions are current.

  • Improved Notification & Alerts (Pilot)

    What it is: We’ve started a pilot for an in-app notification system (“Minis Alerts”). While not fully launched, some users will begin to see alerts from Minis for certain events – for example, a Mini might proactively alert a coordinator if a critical incident form was submitted or if a timeframe (like a monthly review) is due. This pilot is currently limited to a few scenarios as we test reliability.

    Why it matters: Proactive notifications can further reduce the chance of missing important information. Instead of always having to ask the Mini, the Mini can sometimes tap you on the shoulder (figuratively) when something needs attention. We’re treading carefully here to avoid noise – the goal is meaningful alerts, not more clutter. We mention it in the release notes so you’re aware of what those new little notification icons mean if you see them, and we’ll expand

    this feature with your feedback.

Fixes & Improvements:

  • Added visual and audio feedback for the voice feature: when you click the mic, you’ll see a “listening” indicator and the transcript will appear live as you speak. If the Mini is unsure or didn’t catch something, it will politely prompt you to repeat, improving the accuracy of dictation.

  • Fine-tuned the AI models for speech recognition in aged care contexts (for example, medication names or facility acronyms should be recognised more accurately now in voice mode).

  • The user administration page in Minikai (for those with admin rights) now shows an indicator if SCIM sync is active, and logs the last sync time. We also fixed an issue where manually added users wouldn’t alphabetically sort correctly – now all users are listed in a clear order.

  • General performance updates: We upgraded our backend infrastructure this month, resulting in roughly 15% faster response times on average for chat queries and a smoother overall app experience.

How to Use It:

Voice Input is available to all users immediately. To use it, make sure you have a microphone on your device and that you grant Minikai permission to access it (your

browser or app will prompt you the first time). Then, you’ll notice a microphone icon in the chat box – click/tap it and start speaking. After you finish, either click the icon again or just pause – the Mini will transcribe and process your query. We suggest keeping initial voice queries short and clear as you get used to it (e.g., “What’s John’s latest care plan update?”). You can also dictate longer notes; just be aware of your surroundings when discussing sensitive information out loud. All voice transcripts are treated securely like other inputs. Feel free to experiment – you might find it becomes your preferred way to interact.

For SCIM, this feature needs to be configured by an administrator and is typically only relevant if you have an identity management system that supports SCIM. If you’re interested, contact our team and we will provide the SCIM endpoint and help with the setup. Usually, it involves entering a URL and an API token from Minikai into your IdM platform. Once enabled, we recommend testing with a single user account to ensure everything is mapping correctly (we’ll assist with that). After that, user provisioning will largely take care of itself. Smaller organisations without a centralised directory likely won’t need SCIM – you can continue to add/remove users manually as before.

We’re continuing to improve how your team can interact with Minis and how Minikai fits into your IT ecosystem. Talking to your Mini is as simple as can be – we hope this makes it even easier to capture notes and get info in real time, without breaking your flow of care. And on the back end, features like SCIM are all about making Minikai a natural extension of your existing tools, not another silo to manage.
